Publishers’ Note:

In the ‘The Worker’, No10, organ of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), published
in May 2006, a major interview with Prachanda, chairperson of the CPN (Maoist), was
published. Considering the comprehensive nature of the interview, we decided to publish
it separately as a pamphlet so that it can be studied widely.

The revolution in Nepal, being the first in the 21st Century, following global collapse
of the socialist system, has proved to be somewhat unique in theory and practice. Learning
from past failures as well as successes, of the communists before us, the CPN (Maoist) has
demonstrated its superb ability to move from one to the other so successfully, with flexible
tactics serving a firm strategy, between the realms of political and armed struggles. And the
theory of multi-party system under the dictatorship of the proletariat has brought a new
dimension to the hitherto applied Marxist theory of state and revolution.

Indeed, after several decades of mechanistic thinking and barren practice in the international
communist movement, it is no wonder that tactics like ‘talks’ with bourgeois-landlord
representatives, ‘demand of a constituent assembly’ with such forces, or ‘merging the PLA’ with
their standing army bring bewilderment even amongst tested revolutionaries! As the communist
movement has suffered so much from the negative experiences, the revolution in Nepal has to
be welcomed at least for the breath of fresh air it is bringing in.

We recommend to every serious revolutionary of the 21st Century to study assiduously the
present interview as a landmark document on the new tasks of communists everywhere in the world.
